Animal cell model, wooden cell model
Description
The Animal Cell Model is a wooden puzzle that includes a base, 18 wooden puzzle pieces, and 18 wooden labels. It allows the child to refine their fine motor skills, spatial understanding, concentration, sense of order, and develop scientific knowledge. The size and shape of each puzzle piece and the wooden base provide self-correcting measures.
Children will be drawn to the size and shape of each puzzle piece as well as the lines and colors depicted on them.
Variations for this work include removing the puzzle pieces out of order and arranging them out of sequence once removed.
Extension ideas include making a drawing or replica of an animal cell. The child can research one or more parts of the animal cell. Using their sense of imagination, the child can also create a new cell, mixing or matching the parts and drawing and/or writing about the characteristics of the new species they've created.
